Here’s a detailed look at the paint palette available on the Genesis GV60 5-seater, all-electric crossover-SUV, which we hope will help you choose your perfect new car colour. Y
There are 15 main paint options for the Genesis GV60, comprising 2 solid paints, 8 metallic paints, 1 pearlescent paint (called ‘gloss’ by Genesis) and then 4 matte-effect paints. Besides the exterior hues, we also outline the various interior upholsteries that go with these paint finishes.
Paint Types
Solid = a simple body colour with no additives in the paint. Usually comprises 3 coats, these being a primer, then the paint, then a clear, protective lacquer. Solid paints aren’t particularly shiny and are normally the only standard/no-cost colours offered by manufacturers.
Metallic = same application process as above but the paint now has powdered metal mixed into it, which reflects more light to give the car a shinier appearance. Metallic finishes usually cost more than solid paints.
Pearlescent/Mica = as above, only instead of metal, ceramic crystals (known as ‘mica’) are added to the paint. These not only reflect light but refract it too, giving one colour different appearances in different levels of light. They’re normally as expensive as or pricier than metallic paints.
Matte = uses special ‘flattening’ agents in the paint/layering make-up to give the car a non-reflective appearance, and sometimes an unusual texture too. These are normally the most expensive and rarest of paint options, and are not offered on many new car models.
Exterior
Alta White
Type: Solid
Cost: No cost (default colour on all models)

Genesis, like so many other manufacturers, offers a solid white as the solitary no-cost option on the GV60 electric vehicle (EV), which is called Alta White. It’s ever so slightly darker and less lustrous than its metallic counterpart Uyuni White (see below), which is understandable, but for a solid paint Alta has a depth and gloss to it that is most surprising, yet welcome. White also suits any EV, given their saintly zero-emissions running capability, but of course it’ll need cleaning almost every other day if you use the car regularly throughout winter – Alta is not going to hide the road-muck sins of daily driving very well at all.
Sao Paulo Lime
Type: Metallic

Named after the cultural melting pot of a city in Brazil, Sao Paulo Lime is a searing, eye-catching yellowy-green colour, which is something of a signature for the GV60 – many of the early demonstrator and press cars have been seen in this finish. It’s obviously not going to blend into the background in a crowded car park, but maybe that’s a good thing if you’re a forgetful person who can’t remember where you stashed the car. Despite the fact it is the only other solid paint besides Alta White, SPL costs the same £740 as a metallic finish, so choose it carefully. And expect to be cleaning this strident colour a lot throughout the year as well, because this paint will show up accumulated road dirt almost as much as 1 of the 3 white paints available for the GV60 would do.
Vik Black
Type: Metallic

There are some very dark colours in the GV60 palette which look similar to Vik, but this is the only out-and-out black available for Genesis’ handsome electric coupe-SUV. The first of 8 metallic finishes available for the GV60, Vik Black almost seems to have a brownish tinge to it, but don’t expect it to be low maintenance – as we’ve said many a time before, black cars tend to show up winter road salts worse than any other colour. Still, when it’s sparkling, Vik should look pretty moody on the Genesis EV.
Uyuni White
Type: Metallic

The second metallic option and, visually speaking, very, very similar to basic Alta White. The question, then, is why you’d spend £740 on Uyuni, which’ll need exactly the same amount of rigorous upkeep on the GV60’s lines as the no-cost white would do. Unless you’re a big fan of salt flats, because this colour is named after the largest such geological feature in the world – and the gateway city in south-west Bolivia which is near them.
Savile Silver
Type: Metallic

Available On: All models
The only silver in the palette is this one, Savile. To be honest, it looks like one of those chalky, flat, light greys that were all the range on high-performance RS Audis about 6 years ago, but it’s a pleasant colour despite that fact. Savile Silver is going to be one of the lowest-maintenance paints available for the GV60 – it should hide a multitude of mucky marks fairly well, even in the depths of winter, meaning you probably won’t have to wash it every Sunday like some kind of valeting zealot.
Cardiff Green
Type: Metallic
Cost: £740
Available On: All models
This is 1 of 2 extremely dark greens available for the Genesis GV60, but as Cardiff Green is a ‘plain’ metallic then it’s more affordable than the other option, which is an £1100 matte (see below). Cardiff will look wonderful in bright sunlight, where the rich nature of its green paint will shine through, but in duller conditions or when it’s slathered with winter road grime, this finish is not going to be easy to tell apart from Vik Black.
Mauna Red
Type: Metallic
Cost: £740
Available On: All models
Aside from the searing Sao Paulo Lime, Mauna Red is arguably the most stand-out colour for the GV60. It contrasts well with the car’s black exterior body detailing, while it should continue to look good even if you don’t wash it for a few weeks during the colder, darker winter months. As a sporty colour, Mauna Red works particularly well on the range-topping Sport Plus model, with its monster 490hp powertrain.
Barossa Burgundy
Type: Metallic
Cost: £740
Available On: All models
Another of the finishes in the GV60 palette which is listed as a ‘true’ colour (i.e., not black, white, grey or silver), but which is so dark and deep that you’ll struggle to discern it from Vik metallic at a range of 50 metres. This is Barossa Burgundy, which – understandably – gets its name from a wine valley in Australia. It’ll look brilliant and ultra-high-class when spotlessly clean and sitting in direct sunlight, but that will be a rarity throughout the year so choose it carefully if you’re someone who values the importance of first impressions, yet who isn’t keen on washing a car on a weekly basis minimum.
Hanauma Mint
Type: Metallic
Cost: £740

Hanauma Mint is, well, mint, as Vanarama’s video reviews star Mark Nichol might say. It’s a light, flat-looking (despite being metallic) minty green, which could appear grey-ish in certain lights. It’ll probably need quite a bit of annual upkeep to look its very best, but it’s another daring finish for the GV60 in a palette where there’s quite a few bold paints to go at.
Himalayan Grey
Type: Metallic
Cost: £740
Available On: All models
Himalayan Grey – Genesis spells this ‘Gray’, but the last time we checked we hadn’t ended up in America so ‘Grey’ it is – is a great alternative to Vik Black, because it is such a dark shade of grey that it might as well be black; in fact, Genesis’ alternative name for this finish is ‘Carbon Metal’. So deep that it’s beyond a charcoal shade, Himalayan is going to need washing regularly to look its absolute best throughout the year. This is the last of the 8 metallics available on the GV60.
Adriatic Blue
Type: Pearlescent
Cost: £740

This is the solitary pearlescent paint in the range, although Genesis terms it Adriatic Blue gloss (rather than pearl). Nevertheless, this is a royal blue – again, Genesis’ alternative name for this finish, like Himalayan Grey has a pseudonym – in the classic sense and it’s lovely. Adriatic will look bright and zingy when clean in the sun, but it should still convey an air of quality even when it’s covered in accumulated road dirt and the skies are leaden. A good all-rounder for those who don’t wash their cars that often.
Matterhorn White
Type: Matte

Moving into the 4 matte-effect paints, which are £1100 apiece, Matterhorn White is the third of 3 such colour finishes in the entire Genesis GV60 palette. What it does is take the sort of crisp, clean finish of Uyuni White and then replace that shade’s glossy top-coat with a matte-effect protective layer, that renders the car’s bodywork non-reflective. It’s a great appearance in theory, yet this promises to be the most high-maintenance colour of all 15 available for the GV60. This is because not only is Matterhorn a white paint, which shows up all manner of marks almost the instant you’ve concluded washing it, but matte finishes require much more maintenance and upkeep from their owners – you can’t let tree sap, bird muck or road tar to stay on a matte paint for very long at all, otherwise it will permanently damage the paintwork. To be fair to Matterhorn, the other 3 mattes here have precisely the same issue, but then the colour underneath their problematic top-coats isn’t white, a shade which only compounds matters.
Melbourne Grey
Type: Matte

Another grey (yes, grey, Genesis, not ‘gray’) that’s so dark it’s bordering on black, Melbourne Grey is very similar to Himalayan Grey metallic in terms of tone, only it has the light-sapping matte-effect top-coat. This’ll be mega when it’s clean, but unless you store it in a hermetically sealed garage for 365 days of the year, Melbourne Grey will take quite a lot of upkeep to remain looking its best. And it costs £1100, don’t forget.
Brunswick Green
Type: Matte
Cost: £1100
Available On: All models
Again, another green that’s remarkably similar to the metallic alternative of Cardiff Green, as in Brunswick Green is incredibly dark – making it hard to tell it’s a green at all if you’re viewing it from a distance, unless the sun is shining directly on it. A lovely shade in many respects, the fact it’ll show up winter road crud almost as much as Vik Black will means you have to pick £1100 Brunswick very carefully indeed.
Barossa Burgundy
Type: Matte
Cost: £1100
Available On: All models
Barossa Burgundy is the only colour to appear on this list twice, as it is not only available in the regular metallic finish but also a matte-effect top-coat. This is a nice combination but the maintenance levels will be increased from the £740 version of Barossa, so seriously question whether you want to spend an extra £360 for the privilege of washing your GV60 a lot more often all throughout the year.
Interior
Obsidian Black

Moving to the interiors, the first cabin ambience available is straightforward Obsidian Black, which sees the seats, all of the door cards and both halves of the dash (above and below the beltline trim) finished in black. Easy and low maintenance, Obsidian Black goes with all 15 body finishes without you having to think about potential colour contrasts too much at all. This interior is the standard, no-cost cabin on the 2 lower trim levels of the 3 available for the GV60, namely Premium and Sport, and it is a man-made leather (called ‘leatherette’ by Genesis). You cannot specify this interior on the Sport Plus, even for a fee.
Obsidian Black
Type: Nappa leather
Cost: No cost (standard on Sport Plus model) or £2310 (option on Premium and Sport models)

Looks like we’ve repeated ourselves here, but the difference with this cabin is that the upholstery is now genuine leather, with a quilted-pattern finish for the stitching. Obviously, vegans won’t be massively happy about the move to cow hide, but there you go. The plush Nappa cabin is the standard interior for the Sport Plus flagship model of GV60, but if you want to switch your seats from leatherette to proper leather in the Premium and Sport cars, it’ll set you back £2310 to do so.
Dark Grey/Glacier White

The first of 3 duo-tone interiors available for the Genesis GV60 is the only 1 of the trio which is available with all body colours. This combination sees the tops of the door cards and the upper dash fascia finished in Dark Grey, while the seats, door-card centres and the lower portion of the console all switch to light-coloured Glacier White, rendered in hide where appropriate. Such pale-coloured seats are lovely for making a car’s interior feel upmarket and more airy than plain old black, but if you wear dark-dyed jeans a lot, eventually you will end up with blue or black staining on the grain of the seat base’s leather. As with Obsidian Black Nappa leather, this cabin will cost you £2310 on the Premium and Sport cars, but it is a no-cost alternative to Obsidian Nappa on the flagship Sport Plus.
Monstera Green/Glacier White

This sees the quilted Nappa upholstery carried over from the standard Obsidian Black, only here the leather’s colour is the pristine Glacier White. The difference between this and Dark Grey/Glacier White is that the upper section of the fascia and the door-card tops are finished in tasteful, contrasting Monstera Green rather than Dark Grey. However, this interior colour combination cannot be specified with 6 of the exterior colours as a result, which are Sao Paulo Lime solid, Cardiff Green metallic, Mauna Red metallic, Brunswick Green matte and Barossa Burgundy (in either its metallic or matte finishes). Again, it’s £2310 for Premium and Sport cars, but a no-cost option on the Sport Plus GV60.
Monstera Green/Camel Beige
Type: Nappa leather
Cost: £2310 (option on Premium and Sport models)

Available With All Body Colours?: No
This is as per the interior above (Monstera Green/Glacier White), only here all the bits of the cabin which would have been Glacier White are now finished in tan-coloured Camel Beige, which is an appealing mix. Nevertheless, this interior colour combination cannot be specified with 6 of the exterior colours, which are Sao Paulo Lime solid, Cardiff Green metallic, Mauna Red metallic, Brunswick Green matte and Barossa Burgundy (in either its metallic or matte finishes), and it is not available on the range-topping Sport Plus cars no matter how much cash you want to splash. It’s £2310 on the Premium and Sport models, for the sake of consistency.
New Navy
Type: Performance Nappa leather
Cost: £250
Available On: Sport Plus only
Available With All Body Colours?: No
New Navy is only available for the Sport Plus Genesis GV60 flagship, where it’s the only cabin that requires an extra fee if you want it – albeit it’s a relatively nominal £250 to go for it. All of the seats, the door cards and the dashboard are rendered in a deep, rich blue here, which is a smashing colour. As with 2 of the interiors mentioned above, New Navy is not available with every body colour. However, only 4 are exempted here, as both Sao Paulo Yellow solid and Mauna Red metallic CAN be teamed to this interior – the exclusions are therefore Cardiff Green metallic, Brunswick Green matte and Barossa Burgundy (in either its metallic or matte finishes).
