Rapid performance

  • The Model 3 saloon doesn’t lack for cabin space, but the Model Y – with its taller roofline – takes that to another level, with plenty of leg- and headroom in both the front and back seats. The flat floor helps with space in the back, giving rear-seat passengers plenty of room for their feet, so it’s possible to get 3 adults in there when needs be.

The boot is also massive, with Tesla quoting as much as 854 litres of space if you load the Model Y up to its rear windscreen. Not only does that boot space expand to 1869 litres if you fold down the back seats, there’s also a handy extra boot – known as a ‘frunk’ – in the nose, which accommodates another 117 litres of luggage. That’s a good place to keep the bulky charging cables, too.

  • One of the biggest benefits of a Tesla lease is being able to use the fast-charging ‘Supercharger’ network when you’re out and about on a long drive. Newer Superchargers have a massive 250kW power output, and that means being able to add an extra 172 miles of range in as little as 15 minutes of charging.

There’s clever technology on board that pre-conditions the battery for rapid charging when a Supercharger location is selected as the destination. Each Tesla comes with 400kWh of Supercharger credits per year, which is enough for roughly 1000 miles’ worth of charging. Tesla also sites what it calls ‘Destination Chargers’ at hotels, shopping centres and other points of interest, and these are often free to use.

Model Y Trim Levels

Trim Levels Available: Long Range, Performance

Long Range Model Ys come with 19-inch alloy wheels as standard, along with black synthetic leather seats, a panoramic glass roof, wireless phone charging, a 13-speaker premium audio system, heated front and rear seats, and power adjustment for both the front seats and the steering wheel. On top of all that is a line-up of games to play, along with Netflix and YouTube streaming on the big infotainment screen, which keeps passengers entertained during charging.

Performance models add 21-inch alloys, upgraded brakes and lower suspension.

The standard Model Y Long Range comes with 2 motors for 4-wheel drive, a 75kWh battery and a 440hp power output. Its top speed is 135mph and it will cover a claimed 331 miles between charges.

The Performance version uses the same 75kWh battery and has 4-wheel drive, but adds more power for a total of 490hp, allowing a 3.5-second 0-62mph time. Its top speed is limited to 155mph.

Compare Your Tesla Model Y Lease Deal

Audi’s Q4 E-Tron is a good rival to the Model Y, coming with a badge that’s as desirable and an interior that – although it looks more conventional – feels of higher quality. However, even in expensive 4-wheel-drive quattro form, it’s not as fast as the Tesla, and nor can it match the Model Y’s boot space.

Kia’s EV6 is a surprisingly good alternative to leasing a Model 3. Although it’s not as quick in standard form, it has excellent range on a charge and there is a rapid GT version that can match the Model Y Performance.

To see how the Model Y matches up against the Model 3 read our head to head article on these electric siblings.

  • Tesla’s electric motors and batteries are cutting edge and unlikely to give trouble, plus the whole car comes with a 4-year warranty, while the battery itself gets an 8-year warranty.

  • With 854 litres of boot space even when there are 5 people on board, plus the 177-litre ‘frunk’ up front, the Model Y has loads of room for luggage.

  • Yes, all Model Ys come with a 360-degree camera system, including parking sensors.

  • Very practical. Aside from the big boot, there’s plenty of leg- and headroom for those in the front and rear seats.

  • Tesla is seen as the leading EV brand right now, which – combined with excellent range and performance, as well as the access to that Supercharger network – makes the Model Y a very popular choice for a lease.

  • If you’re looking for a Tesla lease deal, rest assured you’ll get the best deal here at Vanarama. You can choose your budget, contract length and mileage, which allows you to tailor your deal to what you need.

You can even add servicing and maintenance packages for extra peace of mind. Leasing allows you to pay affordable monthly payments for your new car. Plus, if you’re not completely satisfied, we offer free returns within 30 days.
