What’s The Cabin Like?

Every Porsche focuses on the driver – the seat, driving position and dashboard layout is excellent, with everything so well centred around the driver that you start to wonder why it’s not like this in every car. It blends traditional design, such as the trademark set of 5 dials in front of the driver, with modern technology – some of those dials, for example, have been replaced by digital screens, allowing for lots of customisation. The cabin is dominated by a 12.3-inch infotainment screen that controls most of the car's functions, with a manual rocker switch to control the cabin temperature. That combination keeps things tidy, but also allows you to make changes without taking your eyes off the road. There’s quality everywhere you look. Every switch lines up, every panel is flush, every material perfectly aligned, and every screen precisely positioned.

How Does The Porsche Panamera Drive?

The Panamera is much more of a car for cruising in. Of course, being a Porsche, there are all sorts of power options available and your choice changes the nature of the car completely. The 4 E-Hybrid combines a 2.9-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for efficient but still fast driving – while the Turbo S employs a 630hp, 4.0-litre V8 beast of an engine for more powerful performance. All but the entry-level model have 4-wheel drive, ensuring plenty of traction, but the Panamera is so well balanced that you’ll rarely need its help. Excellent suspension ensures it remains comfortable and smooth at all times, too. In the city, its sheer bulk – the Panamera’s more than 5 metres long – and low slung nature makes it a little tricky to manouevre, but parking sensors and a reversing camera ensure you can always find your way safely.

With 4 good-sized seats and a large boot, the Panamera is Porsche’s sensible model. It’s large for a Porsche. It’ll take 405 litres which, to put that into perspective, is a little less than you’ll find in a Honda Civic. But by 200mph sports car standards, that’s huge.

The rear seats fold down too, so you won’t struggle to move anything unless it starts getting really bulky. And if that’s not enough, then the Sport Turismo will hold anything between 520 and 1390 litres.

Passenger-wise, there’s plenty of room in the Panamera. In truth, 4 adults will fit easily, even with its sleek roofline, but there’s also the 4+1 seating option if you need a 5th seatbelt and then the Sport Turismo estate if you need even more room. And finding spots for phones and drinks is also pleasingly easy.
With everything from a plug-in hybrid that can run for up to 35 miles without starting the engine, to 700hp supercars that can almost hit 200mph, how much it costs to run a Panamera depends on your need for speed.

At one end of the scale, the plug-in hybrid can go a good distance without using any petrol, which could mean you have almost cost-free motoring if your daily use suits its limitations. At the other end, the 630hp Turbo S is unlikely to return even 20mpg and has CO2 emissions that are literally off the chart. It’s quick, though.

Every Panamera is covered by a 3-year warranty, with no limits on mileage, meaning you’ll be unlikely to face any unexpected bills during a 36-month lease.

Even the entry-level Panameras come with an impressive equipment list. There are seemingly endless optional extras to choose from, but you probably won’t need them – LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, automatically dimming door mirrors, electrically adjustable and heated seats, dual-zone climate control, a rear-view camera, an impressive 10-speaker sound system, 4G connectivity, satellite navigation, and an electric tailgate are among many items which are included as standard.

The Porsche Panamera Vs Competitors

The BMW 8 Series and Audi A7 are technically the Panamera’s direct rivals, especially the sportier models with more powerful engines, but the Mercedes-Benz CLS is probably the 2nd-best alternative to the Porsche. The Merc balances power and practicality, making it a compelling leasing option.

The entry point to the Panamera range, simply called Panamera, still has a 330hp engine, which translates to a top speed of 168mph and a 0-62mph sprint time of 5.4 seconds. At the other end of the range, the 700hp Turbo S E-Hybrid will hit 62mph in just 3.2 seconds and can go on to reach 196mph.
Every model in the Panamera range features 4-wheel drive, apart from the entry-level model which uses a rear-wheel drive set-up. Every other model, from the basic Panamera 4 to the range-topping Turbo S E-Hybrid, uses an all-wheel-drive system complemented by various electronic aids to ensure maximum traction.
The Panamera has either a 2.9-litre V6 engine or a 4.0-litre V8 engine, and you’ll find it under the bonnet at the front. While the famous 911 has a rear-mounted engine, that’s not an option for the more practical Panamera.
