BMW X5 M Competition Top Features

Incredible performance.

Handsome styling.

Practical and comfortable interior.

  • The X5 M may well be a high-performance car that is essentially built around its engine, but that doesn’t mean that it’s skimping on space. This is still a large SUV so inside there is large SUV space, comfort and refinement.

Up front there are big and supportive seats covered in Merino leather, while in the back there’s plenty of passenger space. There’s even a 650-litre boot, so this is a high-performance vehicle that’s also very practical and useful. You can fold the back seats down and expand that boot space to 1870 litres, too.

  • The heart of the X5 M – as it is with any BMW M car – is its engine, and in this case it’s the ultimate M engine, a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. That means it produces a whopping 625hp, which is enough to propel the X5 M from standstill to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds. While not the most economical car around, the big V8 can manage 21mpg on the combined cycle, which – given the size and weight of the X5 M – certainly isn’t as bad as you might expect.

X5 M Leasing Models Available

There is just the one specification for the X5 M, and that’s the X5 M Competition, which comes with the 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 petrol engine and 625hp. There is a slightly lesser M-version of the X5, called the X5 M50i that comes with a 530hp version of the V8 engine and slightly more comfort-oriented chassis tuning.

Trim Levels

Trim Levels Available: Base.

The X5 M only comes in one base trim. Standard equipment for the X5 M includes ‘Shadowline’ black exterior trim and an M body kit, 21-inch alloy wheels (with 22-inch wheels available as an option), full Merino leather interior, specially tuned suspension and brakes, and a full suite of electronic driver assistance systems.

Mercedes, Audi and Jaguar all provide some interesting rivals to the X5 M. The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, for instance, uses a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine with up to 612hp in the S model. It’s also available as a coupe version with a more heavily sloped rear end.

Audi doesn’t have an RS version of its full-sized Q7 SUV, but there is an RS Q8, which comes with a 600hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine. It’s a very handsome car and an excellent rival to the X5 M.

Jaguar’s F-PACE is a little smaller than the X5 M, but it has comparable boot space so it’s just as practical, and the high-performance SVR model comes with a 550hp supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine.

  • We would expect it to be. BMW’s M models are built alongside its conventional line-up, but there’s certainly a little more specialist attention paid to them, so build quality tends to be even better. While high-performance obviously takes its toll on things such as brakes and tyres, BMW M has extensive experience of making such cars dependable in the long term. As with all BMWs, the X5 M comes with a 3-year, unlimited-mileage warranty as standard.

  • The X5 M’s boot has 650 litres of volume measured up to the luggage cover or 1870 litres if you fold the back seats and stack it to the roof, although – unlike other X5 models – there’s no option of a 7-seat layout for the X5 M.

  • Yes. In fact, all X5 Ms come as standard with front and rear sensors, a surround-view parking camera and an electronic automatic parking aid that can back you safely into a space.

  • The X5 M is very practical, as 4 adults can easily get comfortable and, in spite of the sculpted rear seats, there’s enough room for 3 adults to sit across the rear bench if you need to carry 5 people onboard. There’s plenty of storage space in the large door bins and in the area under the front seat armrest, and the boot is massive.

  • BMW’s legendary M brand has been making fast road cars since the 1970s, and has built an unassailable reputation for exciting driving and thrilling performance. All of that experience and knowledge is poured into the X5 M, and combines with the practicality, space and comfort of the standard model to produce a deeply desirable car.

  • If you’re looking for a BMW X5 M Competition lease deal, you’re guaranteed the best prices here at Vanarama. You can customise your lease based on your budget and choosing your contract length and mileage. This means you pay affordable monthly payments for a brand-new car. If you’re not completely satisfied with your new car, we offer free returns within 30 days too.
