Known for its advanced engine technology, Audi’s latest TDI diesel and TFSI petrol engines give good economy, and the plug-in hybrid TFSIe petrol-electric units combine higher performance with between 37-41 miles of zero-emissions range.
As a guide, the petrol-powered A3 Sportback TSI’s fuel economy starts in the high-30s, the TDIs bettering that by almost 30mpg – and it’s similar for the A3 Saloon.
If you’re looking for serious performance, the 4-wheel-drive S3 Sportback and S3 Saloon reach 62mph in just 4.8 seconds and top out at a limited 155mph. These more powerful sports S3 models offer up mid-30s mpg.
As you’d expect, the electrified plug-in hybrids offer the best economy of all, ranging from 235.4-282.5mpg on the official WLTP cycle.
