We’ve been waiting quite a while for this – the full details for Renault’s all-new Kangoo and all the information on what’s fresh in the all-electric E-Tech. In the summer of 2021, we got our first look at the new Renault Kangoo - all we got were a few images together with sparse details. Later that year, it won the International Van of the Year award, but it’s not until now (12 months later) that the French manufacturer has come clean on how this mainstay of the light van marketplace looks for the UK market.
What Body Styles Will The New Renault Kangoo Be Offered In?
The range is relatively simple: just 2 body lengths designated ‘ML19’ (M standing for medium despite this being the shorter of the 2), and ‘LL21’ (no prizes for guessing that the L identifies the long version, which can also be specified as a crewvan).
You’ll get an 1806mm long load into the back of the ML19, and a useful 2230mm in the LL21, load volumes being 3.3 cubic metres and 4.2 cubic metres respectively. Payloads vary depending on power unit and trim level but reckon on between 802kg and 987kg for diesel vans, and 615kg for the all electric E-Tech. Accessing the loadspace should be a breeze, with twin rear doors opening to 180 degrees, and a side loading door on each side.
What Engines & Electric Motors Will The New Renault Kangoo Use?
Under the bonnet, the proven dCi 95 and 115PS diesel engines are joined by a 100PS petrol unit. The electric E-Tech Kangoo, meanwhile, will have a 45kWh battery pack which provides a competitive 186 miles of range on the WLTP Combined cycle. Your 7.4kW home charger will complete a full charge in less than 7 hours, and a DC charge rate of 22kw from a public chargepoint will get you back up to 80% charge in around 90 minutes.
What Trim Levels Will The New Renault Kangoo Be Offered In?
There’s just 2 trim levels to choose from, although you get some bonus features with the E-Tech. The ‘Kangoo Start’ trim level has a decent level of equipment including automatic headlights and wipers, 3.5-inch TFT driver information display, DAB radio with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, electric front windows, manual air conditioning, cruise control, heated and electrically-adjustable door mirrors, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. The ‘E-Tech Start’ trim level adds heated seats, a heated windscreen, and the air conditioning is now automatic.
The ‘Kangoo Advance’ trim level adds an 8-inch touchscreen display with smartphone integration via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an electric parking brake, reverse parking sensors, premium gear stick with chrome inserts, cloth upholstery with yellow accents, 16-inch ‘Flex’ wheels, body-coloured door rails, and a wide view mirror.
Options include a third front passenger seat and some advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as advanced lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
What Length Warranty Does The New Renault Kangoo Come With?
The van will have a 3-year or 100,000-mile warranty (whichever milestone comes first), and service intervals are 24,000 miles or 2 years, although the Kangoo E-Tech Electric will need servicing after the first 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first).
