● The charity has also tripled the amount of food distributed to people in need – from 1 million meals delivered to more than 3 million each week.
Vanarama, the UK's leading independent commercial and personal vehicle online leasing company and title sponsors of The National League has announced a partnership with Fare Share, the UK's biggest Food Charity. The partnership will first see Vanarama supply two of its vans to FareShare North East to supply meals to vulnerable children in the region over the coming weeks.
The COVID-19 crisis has seen demand for FareShare's service soar. Since lockdown measures were introduced in March, the number of applications from new charities wishing to receive food has more than tripled. Not only this, but the charity has also tripled the amount of food distributed to people in need – they've gone from delivering 1 million meals to more than 3 million each week.
Vanarama was inspired to get involved after seeing the charity's partnership with Manchester United Striker, Marcus Rashford. After seeing him help overturn the Government's decision on supplying meals to vulnerable school children, Vanarama offered a helping van! The two vans supplied by Vanarama, will help Fare Share North East deliver 42,858 meals to people over a 6-week period.
"We're delighted we can put some of our vans to good use by helping the community in the North East." said Daryl West, Head of Sponsorship, Vanarama. "We often use our National League sponsorship to help charitable causes so witnessing what Marcus Rashford and Fare Share achieved this summer for so many vulnerable children really struck a chord. It made total sense to send some of our vans in to help," added West.
Jake Hanmore, at FareShare North East, said: "FareShare North East now reaches more than 200 charitable projects every week, redistributing over 150 tonnes of food every month with the support of more than 120 volunteers. These vans play an extremely important role in ensuring that the food reaches people safely. We are very grateful to Vanarama for their support and generous donation at this difficult time."
