For most of us, owning a supercar is nothing more than a daydream. We may all want to get behind the wheel of a McLaren, but the likelihood of being able to drive a supercar with a price range in the hundreds of thousands of pounds will only ever be available to a select few.

The Toyota Supra GR is a legendary name in performance driving, with the old Mk4 of the 1990s proving to be a huge draw to a younger generation of fans, thanks to its starring roles in the Gran Turismo computer games and the Fast & Furious film franchise. When Toyota announced that it was bringing back the Supra name for an all-new model, fans immediately began looking excitedly at the car’s performance stats.

So, are you looking for a car that can fit 3 children, 2 dogs and a couple of bags of shopping in the back, while still being able to tear away from the line like a rocket?

If so, then the Mercedes EQC lease may just be the choice for you! Merc’s 4-wheel drive all-electric SUV is both conscientious and crushingly quick. Mercedes-Benz has created a thoroughly modern and rapid car that sprints away from the line at a blistering pace to reach 62mph in just 5.1 seconds.

4) Ford Mustang Fastback

An enduring symbol of true muscle car heritage, the Ford Mustang Fastback was built for quarter-mile performance, with a growling V8 that is as iconic as it is loud.

Ford hasn’t simply dropped in the traditional V8 lump and called it a day. It has added technology from the mighty Ford GT to develop one of the best engines around. The 4.8-second 0-62 time, which isn’t far off its supercar stablemate, underlines just how much the American manufacturer has learned.

5) Jaguar I-PACE

It may seem a strange entry, but the iconic Volkswagen Golf R has been thumbing its nose at supercars ever since it first launched as the R32 in 2003, in the Mk4 generation of VW’s family hatchback, and long may it continue to do so.

And that’s the same time as a Porsche 911. It may have 2 fewer cylinders than a Porsche, but it’ll fight it off the line any day of the week.

7) BMW Z4

BMW’s stylish 2-seater sports car has been around for a while now, but it’s never been a better proposition for drivers looking to get supercar performance without supercar costs. Lightweight, punchy and stylish, the current range-topping third generation BMW Z4 has been tuned to perfection by the wizards in BMW’s M Division. So while this convertible has plenty of strong 4-cylinder turbo engines to choose from, it’s the M40i you want to be looking at if you’re after supercar-baiting pace.

That’s because the top-spec Z4 has a lusty 3.0-litre 6-cylinder unit with 340hp and 500Nm of torque, which means it can wring out a 0-62mph time of just 4.6 seconds – making it capable of keeping up with rival offerings from Porsche and Toyota.

8) Tesla Model 3

While it doesn’t share an engine with the headlining R8 supercar, its sonorous 2.5-litre 5-cylinder turbo unit still has a whopping 400hp, which means it’ll run 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds – not far off its illustrious V10 stablemate’s 3.1-second sprint in its most powerful, 620hp ‘performance’ guise.
